Homemade Hostess Cupcakes!
I had a habit of buying these when I was little and thought they were the best thing ever!
They still still sell them just about everywhere, but I think a homemade hostess cupcake might taste just as good! Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recipe:
Dark Chocolate Cupcakes (makes 18 cupcakes)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 3/4 cup cake flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp baking soda
- 5 1/2 Tblsp butter, cut in pieces
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup dark cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Method:
- Heat oven to 375. Prepare cupcake pans with foil liners and nonstick spray.
- In a large bowl, sift together sugar, flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Over low heat, warm the butter, oil, cocoa powder, and water, until the butter is melted. Whisk until smooth.
- Stir the warm liquids into the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon or spatula to fully combine.
- Add eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk and stir until smooth. You may need to use a whisk to get it completely smooth.
- Fill cupcake liners to 3/4 full. Bake about 15 minutes until center of cupcakes spring back when you touch them. Cool completely before filling.
**my tip: If you’ve baked cupcakes before you might be tempted to make ur hole on top of the cupcake for the filling. But in this case it’s better done in the bottom because of the flatter design that goes on top. If you’re cupcake topping was fluffier you could make the hole on top, but as you can see this is not the case with this cupcake! :)
Heart Cake Tutorial!
This one is a doozy! I’m still trying to figure it out myself, but basically it looks as if they dug a heart shaped dome into the middle of the cake and filled it with red velvet cake. Easier said than done! Enjoy! Good luck!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the red velvet cake I messed around with a recipe from Magnolia Bakery.
*This is how I modified this recipe: I used 2 sticks of butter, 2 eggs and 2 egg yolks, 2 tablespoons of food color, and apple cider vinegar. I wanted a more dense cake because I knew I was using it in the center of the heart cake and I needed to make sure it was sturdy enough.
- 3 1/3 cups cake flour (not self-rising)
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 1/4 cups sugar
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 6 tablespoons red food coloring
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
**Need more help? don’t contact me about this one LOOOOOOOOOOL contact the source! hahaha! I can’t stop laughing! i’m j/k! :D
Sou Fujimoto - House N, Oyta 2007. A home within a home within a home; three porous layers define the envelope, creating a gradual transition from public to private as one enters the core. Via, 2.
“…life in this house resembles to living among the clouds. A distinct boundary is nowhere to be found, except for a gradual change in the domain. One might say that an ideal architecture is an outdoor space that feels like the indoors and an indoor space that feels like the outdoors. In a nested structure, the inside is invariably the outside, and vice versa. My intention was to make an architecture that is not about space nor about form, but simply about expressing the riches of what are `between` houses and streets… I imagined that the city and the house are no different from one another in the essence, but are just different approaches to a continuum of a single subject, or different expressions of the same thing- an undulation of a primordial space where humans dwell.”
